Hello!
You might have heard of it, but wondered ‘what exactly is it?’. Well, ashwagandha is one of the most important herbs in Ayurveda, which is a traditional form of alternative medicine based on Indian principles of natural healing. Ashwagandha is classified as an adaptogen, meaning it can enhance the body’s resilience to stress.
WebMD says ‘ashwagandha contains chemicals that might help calm the brainreduce swelling, lower blood pressure, & alter the immune system.’
It’s most commonly used for;
- Insomnia – for some people it improves sleep quality
- Anxiety – people reported that it stops racing thoughts & has prevented panic attacks
- Stress – it can help reduce stress in some people
- Improving cognitive function – better attention span & memory
How do you take it?
Just to note, you won’t feel its effects immediately – it can take days or even weeks to notice.
You can buy it as a capsule, powder or liquid extract. You will find differing advice on how much to take, but it’s suggested to start with a lower dosage & work your way up higher to make sure it agrees with you.
As always, I’m not a medical expert, so please do your own research too when exploring different supplements & medicines.
Maybe you’re already loving the uses & benefits of ashwagandha?
